China and ASEAN have taken a series of initiatives to popularize science, aiming to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation, promote the sharing of high-quality science popularization resources, and enhance the international influence of science popularization cooperation between the two sides. The specific initiatives are as follows: Issuing the China-ASEAN Science Popularization Exchange and Cooperation Work PlanAt the 11th China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Innovation Cooperation Conference, the China-ASEAN Science Popularization Exchange and Cooperation Work Plan was released. This plan aims to strengthen talent exchange and joint training between China and ASEAN, promote the co-construction and sharing of high-quality science popularization resources, form a closer international science popularization exchange and cooperation, and lay a solid foundation for China and ASEAN to jointly respond to the global challenges brought about by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. Advancing the China-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Enhancement ProgramIn 2023, the 26th China-ASEAN (10+1) Leaders' Meeting adopted the Joint Initiative on jointly promoting the implementation of the China-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Enhancement Program. The initiative states that China and ASEAN will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, jointly promote the implementation of the China-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Enhancement Program, and enhance regional development momentum through scientific and technological innovation cooperation. This includes deepening talent exchanges, establishing research cooperation platforms, promoting technology transfer and innovation and entrepreneurship cooperation, focusing on key areas of cooperation, and strengthening policy communication. Launching the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer CenterThe China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center was established in 2013. Over the past eight years, it has established a technology transfer cooperation network for institutions and enterprises in China and ASEAN countries, held more than 100 matchmaking activities, promoted about 6,000 projects, and benefited more than 8,500 enterprises. It has played an important role in promoting science and technology cooperation and science popularization between China and ASEAN. Carrying out the China-ASEAN Science and Technology Partnership ProgramIn 2012, the science and technology ministers of China and ASEAN member states jointly launched the China-ASEAN Science and Technology Partnership Program at the 9th China-ASEAN Expo. The program includes four sub-projects: co-establishing joint laboratories and joint research centers, co-establishing the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center, the Young Scientist Visiting Program, and co-establishing the Remote Sensing Satellite Data Sharing and Service Platform COMPASS. These sub-projects have promoted the popularization of science and technology and talent training between China and ASEAN in different fields.
